About the Event

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Model United Nations (MUN) is a unique simulation where countries compete diplomatically for the opportunity to host the Olympic Games. Delegates will engage in negotiations, presentations, and debates to showcase their country's strengths, infrastructure, and global influence to secure the bid. This event provides an opportunity for participants to enhance their diplomacy, negotiation, and public speaking skills.

Instructions

Respect

Delegates must show respect toward each other, the chairs, and the rules of procedure at all times.

Speeches

Delegates must adhere to speaking time limits set by the chairs, typically ranging from 1-2 minutes.

Points and Motions

Delegates can raise points and motions during debate, such as Points of Order, Points of Inquiry, or Points of Personal Privilege.

Moderated and Unmoderated Caucuses

Delegates participate in structured discussions during moderated caucuses and informal discussions during unmoderated caucuses.

Resolution Writing

Instead of a traditional MUN resolution, delegates will draft an "IOC Host City Agreement," which outlines their country's bid proposal. This agreement should include: 1) Proposed host city and its infrastructure capabilities. 2) Financial planning and investment in the Olympic Games. 3) Sustainability and environmental initiatives. 4) Human rights policies and social impact considerations. 5) Security and safety measures for athletes and visitors. 6) Plans for legacy and post-Olympics utilization of facilities.

Voting

Delegates vote on bid proposals using parliamentary procedures such as a simple majority, two-thirds majority, or consensus.

Code of Conduct

Delegates must adhere to a code of conduct prohibiting disruptive behavior, plagiarism, or discrimination.
